Giving a Micro-Roaster the Tools to
Create Branded Designs with Ease
Client Background
Potomac Roasting Company is a small-batch, mission-driven coffee roaster that donates a portion of proceeds to local animal shelters. As a micro-roaster, they needed a cost-effective way to maintain brand consistency across packaging and marketing while retaining flexibility to create new materials as their offerings evolved.
The Challenge
With a small team and no in-house designer, Potomac Roasting Company needed an easy-to-use system to keep their branding consistent across all materials—from labels to marketing content—without relying on outside help for every update. Their packaging design also needed a system that allowed for quick modifications when launching new roasts or testing label variations for customer feedback.
How I Solved the Problem
I built out a comprehensive Canva Brand Kit for Potomac Roasting Company, organizing their brand fonts, colors, and logos for easy access. Additionally, I recreated their packaging labels in Canva, uploading their custom patterns and graphics so they could make adjustments or create new labels effortlessly. To ensure success, I conducted a personalized training session for the primary team member using Canva, ensuring they felt confident in managing their brand assets.
The Results
Consistent branding across all materials, eliminating guesswork and ensuring a polished, professional look.
Greater independence in design creation, reducing the need to outsource simple updates and saving them money.
Faster turnaround for packaging updates, allowing them to test and launch new coffee roasts more efficiently.
Confidence in using Canva, enabling the team to make the most of their brand assets and maintain quality design on their own.
Continued access to professional support, with the option to reach out for complex design needs without being locked into a rigid system.
